Years ago, we used to socialize regularly with our 'tribe'. So much fun was had, alcohol consumed and kilometres covered as we searched for our next adventure.
Then bit by bit, our group started to drift apart as we embarked upon new adventures in pairs - mortgages, renovations... and kids.
Which was why it was so special that, for my birthday this year, we reformed our happy tribe and took a trip to the beach.
We rented a nice beach house while the others stayed in apartments nearby. We took our kids, of course (there's no way that we'd be able to simultaneously arrange that many babysitters) and just had a grand time relaxing in the winter sunshine.
We took frozen gourmet food (we may be frugal with time and money these days, but we still like to eat well), many bottles of wine and high spirits to the beach. And as the sun set on my 35th year, we sat and watched the colours change in the sky while the kids buried each other in sand and took pictures of us.

ReplyDeleteI've got a tribe. We find it hard to all simultanously get together but this year we hired a beach house and spent the weekend together. It was soooo great and really filled my soul up with happiness. We vowed to do it annually. We just mean so much to one another.

That sounds great. We have a tribe now thanks o our daughter's best friend and beyond. Thanks to overseas and interstate moves previous tribes fell apart into odd catchups over the years.

ReplyDeleteSadly our tribe has been torn apart, and at times I feel as though I'm having a solo adventure with a few rings ins... maybe as the kids get bigger this will change. Love this photo x

ReplyDeleteI think I belong to three tribes. The Family Tribe which is large and raucous with all the usual family carry on. Then there is the tribe I live close too, mostly friends made when our children started school. Can get a bit raucous when the occasion calls. And then there is my Girl Tribe, the girls who I went to boarding school with. We only see each other once a year but are constantly chattering on text/FB/email, they are perhaps my real tribe (well they know all the secrets anyway!).
Pleased you had a lovely weekend away with your tribe, all the effort that goes into organizing is always worth it.
I love this, and hope to do this kind of thing one day. I love that with some people, time doesn't change anything.
